Questions About Working Together
Learn more about my approach to somatic-based therapy, what to expect in a Resiliency Session, and the practical details of working together. If your question isn’t answered here, please reach out or schedule a free 20-minute exploratory session.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults of all ages and backgrounds who want support in navigating life’s challenges, managing stress, and integrating the effects of trauma. This includes experiences connected to a particular event as well as developmental trauma rooted in earlier life experiences.
Our work can stand on its own or complement talk therapy and other approaches.
What approaches do you use?
What approaches do you use?
Somatic Experiencing® is at the center of my sessions. This body-centered approach explores physical sensations and patterns of response as part of working with stress and trauma.
Depending on your needs, I may also draw on yoga therapy, meditation, Continuum Inquiry, and other embodiment practices. In-person sessions can include optional nervous system touch work.
What is somatic-based therapy, and how is it different from talk therapy?
Somatic-based therapy brings attention to your physical experience—such as sensations, movement, and patterns of tension—alongside your thoughts and emotions.
Rather than focusing only on understanding your story, we also explore how your body responds in the present moment. This offers another way to notice familiar patterns and explore new possibilities for responding to life. Somatic work can complement the understanding and support you receive through talk therapy.
What happens in a Resiliency Session?
Each session unfolds around your needs. We typically spend time talking about what feels important and noticing the physical sensations that arise. We may also explore gentle movement, rest, or other practices for connecting with your body.
Together, we identify ways you can support yourself between sessions. You may choose to meet weekly, every other week, or monthly; we can discuss a rhythm that fits your needs during our initial conversation.
What is nervous system touch work?
Nervous system touch work uses gentle physical contact as a way to explore support, body awareness, and settling. It offers an approach that does not rely on words alone.
This is an optional part of in-person sessions and may take place while you are seated or resting on a massage table. We can discuss whether you would like to include it in our work.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. I offer in-person sessions in Bend, Oregon, and virtual sessions for people around the world.
If you’re unsure which format would suit you, we can discuss your needs during a free 20-minute exploratory session. Nervous system touch work is available only in person.
Can my sessions count toward my Somatic Experiencing training requirements?
Yes. I am an approved personal session provider for all Somatic Experiencing training levels and an approved case consultation provider for Beginning Level.
Please let me know before your appointment if you are seeking training credit. We can discuss the requirements and how to complete and sign your session log.
Do you accept insurance?
No, I do not accept insurance. I can provide receipts for you to submit to your insurance company or HSA administrator.
Coverage and eligibility vary. Please confirm directly with your insurer or HSA administrator whether sessions with me qualify before relying on reimbursement.
Do you offer reduced fees or sliding-scale options?
I offer a limited number of sliding-scale spaces, depending on availability and individual circumstances.
If cost is a concern, please ask. We can discuss your needs and whether a reduced-fee space is available.
